What is Sakae Naa (Combretum quadrangulare)?

Sakae Naa is the leaves from the plant Combretum Quadrangulare, a small tree in the Combretaceae family that grows up to 10m in height. The tree is endemic to Southeast Asia and grows naturally in Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Myanmar (Burma), particularly in humid areas along riverbanks. Sakae Naa has a unique chemical composition containing flavonoids and triterpenoids, where Combretol is the primary flavonoid. This herb has likely been used since ancient times where Sakae Naa leaves are traditionally chewed, reminiscent of Kratom and other ancient herbs.
