What is Mitragyna Javanica?

Mitragyna Javanica is a common name for the leaves of the plant Mitragyna diversifolia, a tree in the family Rubiaceae. Although the scientific name is Mitragyna diversifolia, the plant has become popularly known as “Javanica”, particularly within ethnobotanical circles. The tree can grow up to 10 meters tall and occurs naturally in Southeast Asia – primarily in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Cambodia. It thrives in tropical forests and humid lowland environments.

The plant has long been part of traditional botanical contexts in the region and is regarded as an ethnobotanical alternative to Kratom.
